This week I am feeling very spoiled by this internship. On Thursday evening, we went on an amazing dinner cruise. On the boat, we enjoyed a beautiful view of DC, a three-course meal, drinks, and dancing.
Writing for a small college’s newspaper is a unique journalistic experience, because everyone already knows what you’re writing about. Sarah Lawrence College’s culture of relentless gossip ensures administration’s betrayals of the already-thin trust became public information quickly.
If I seem a bit on edge, it’s because we just heated oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (or 477.6 K, for those of you with a thing for scientific units) and discovered that the plastic on certain objects does in fact begin to decompose at elevated temperatures. It’s a long story.
This week was all about trial and error. Being in a totally different environment like DC means that I have to experiment with many different experiences and opportunities. I found this to be a common theme both at work and outside.
Every summer NIST hires close to 200 college students for intern work. Hip, spry, and eager to work, these young folks are almost exclusively placed in research laboratories.
