As the summer winds down, the events and obligations are picking up. As a major part of the internship, we all are required to give tours of our placement sites to the rest of our cohort. The only tour so far has been the phenomenal tour of Capitol Hill from the Mather Interns.

It never ceases to amaze me how fast time is flying by, especially this past week. There is just so many things to do here in D.C., and so many sights to see! The holiday and the nice weather inspired an adventurous weekend.

It is incredibly hard to believe that this week was the half way point of the internship. I have learned so much and have done so many things, but I still feel like I just got here. There is just so much to do here! This week was full of fun things to do, which kept me very busy all week!

A major aspect of doing research, and any professional experience, is meeting and interacting with people who have the same interests as you. As an undergrad, I have heard “networking is important” spiel time and time again. It is outstanding how true it is though.

These past few weeks have been a whirlwind of activity, but I am coming to enjoy the fast paced life of the city. For being as large as it is, D.C. is quite charming and welcoming. I am starting to feel at home here, which can be attributed to my growing confidence in my navigation abilities.

This week was my first full week on the job and I absolutely loved it. I am starting to make progress on my project, which is super encouraging. I have already learned so much, even though this is only the second week.

After almost 11 hours of fights, layovers and traffic, I finally arrived at my new home at George Washington University. All 14 of the SPS interns share a giant suite type dorm, with two students per room.

The theme will be Engineering Astronomy, the Technology of Observing.

Planned events include a Friday-night social, an amazing invited speaker, student research presentations, space-station tracking, and solar-viewer construction.
