This week kicked off with a lot of math. To understand exactly how we extract the two-photon absorption and optical Kerr effect values out of the data taken, Jared helped walk me through all the math which took us several hours. It all makes sense now! We continued taking data, I wrote code to process some of the data we are taking, and I started reading about gallium phosphide. With my new background knowledge, I’ve started my presentation and written a rough draft of my abstract to be tweaked by Jared tomorrow morning.

On Wednesday, a group of us went kayaking on the Potomac which was a lot of fun. On Friday we went to Jazz in the Garden, which  I expected to be more about the jazz than the socializing, but it was cool anyways. After that 5 of us went to try Ethiopian food and it was fantastic. On Saturday we went to Asian street fair, and I tried Nepalese food for the first time. Saturday night we did karaoke for a few hours too. think we were very successful for our first time!
