Things are completely different than what they were before August 12. Within a span of just two weeks many new things have happened, and I am learning to adjust to my new life. But I must say, without a doubt, my experience in DC this summer certainly allowed me to remain in the attitude to always seek new knowledge!
The SPS Internship is definitely like non other. I thought Brad and Courtney were exaggerating on day one of the internship when they told us that (perhaps, my nerves were getting the best of me that day). I must say one of the main things about this internship is the ability to meet new people. I am glad I got the opportunity to be a part of my fellow interns life, and each and every one of them changed my life in a particular way. I am grateful to SPS for the countless opportunities they provided to us to have fun (bowling, tours, and others) as well as the learning experiences (AAS, Outreach events, and more)!
Having the opportunity to work at NIST this summer was incredible. I never thought I would have the opportunity to work in such a prestigious organization (I guess it just goes to show you that if you work hard… anything can be done, seriously). With that said, special shout out to my advisor, Joe and Lin, as well as Yao and Chris for attending my final presentation.
To conclude, I would just like to express my gratitude to SPS for this amazing opportunity (Brad and Courtney especially) and to all of the interns. Thanks to my undergraduate institution, Bridgewater College, for giving me the knowledge necessary and the maturity to do well in this internship. Also, I want to thank my parents for all they have done for me too. They never taught me anything about science, but they taught me very essential tools in order to be successful: humility, friendliness, and above all the value of working hard.
Final comment, I promise it’s just that something just occurred to me, and it is tailored to future summer interns. Please, if offered this opportunity of being a part of this internship, do NOT hesitate. There are many reasons to take up this opportunity. I will provide my email in this final blog for anyone wishing to get a hold of me to discuss the internship and would like to know a little bit more about my summer experience: jjc002 [at] eagles.bridgewater.edu. Please, send me an email at any time!
