Associate Zone CouncilorEmail:
Vanessa Chamber is a senior in the physics program at Utah State University. Vanessa will graduate in May 2018 with a B.S. in Physics, then will continue on as Master’s student at USU in the Technical Communication and Rhetoric program and aspire to bridge the gap in understanding between the science community at the interested public. Her current research is in the Utah State University Physics Department Atmospheric Lab where she is analyzing data from the British Antarctic Survey run Halley Station in order to study gravity wave propagation in the atmosphere.
Vanessa has been an active member of SPS for the past 4 years, having served as outreach coordinator, chapter president, and AZC. Vanessa also served as Sigma Pi Sigma vice chairperson for our chapter. My volunteer work in SPS has included monthly outreach activities and setup of radio telescope equipment for chapter research. She organized a 1-day outreach activity for the Bear Lake Idaho School district where her chapter interacted with over 700 students. In 2017, she collaborated with 2 other female SPS members to organize PhysX, an overnight workshop for high school girls on our campus. Our goal is to foster interest in science among teenage girls and recruit for enrollment in our physics program. SPS is organizing this event again for Fall 2018.
Vanessa also served as the AZC from Zone 15 for the 2017-18 academic year.
