SPS Meeting Enhancement Award
Recent Nobel Laureate Lectures

Program Overview

The Nobel Prize in PhysicsThe American Institute of Physics, with the generous support of the Research Corporation, established in 2010 the Society of Physics Students (SPS) Meeting Enhancement Award. The award, the purpose of which is to connect Nobel Prize winners and students from Minority Serving Institutions (MSI’s), supports the visitation of a Nobel Laureate in chemistry or physics to a regional physics meeting which includes participation by students from MSI’s.

The goal of the program is threefold:

  1. To enhance the presence of MSI physics students at regional physics meetings,
  2. To increase visibility of both regional physics meetings and MSI programs by improving reporting procedure, and
  3. To increase interactions among physics departments in the region, including MSI’s, by leveraging contacts in local chapters of the SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma, the physics honor society.

New applications for the program are not currently being accepted , but several Nobel Lecture sites have been selected for 2011---look for their reports on this website soon.
